Taben Studio

About

拓本 — a rubbing.

For a thousand years, the way to carry an inscription home was not to copy it, but to take an impression: dampen paper against the stone, tap ink across it, and lift away a record the stone made itself. Nothing is described. Everything is there.

Taben Studio makes games in that spirit. Our first game is set somewhere the internet has spent years naming, mapping and cataloguing. We are more interested in what it was like before anyone named it.

How we work

Real before strange.

A place has to feel like it could exist before it is allowed to be wrong.

The cause, not the description.

Every legend is a frightened witness's account. We build what they actually saw.

Restraint.

Fear that lasts comes from what you almost see — not from what jumps at you.
